Maitland FL Homes For Sale
Water, Water Everywhere – and Trees, Too
One of the first things you’ll notice about Maitland is the water. More than 1,000 acres of the city’s total area is made up of water, and that’s not counting the swimming pools.
21 lakes punctuate the city’s landscape, offering not just a variety of spectacular vistas, but a wide range of recreational activities as well. It’s no surprise then why Maitland, FL homes for sale with lakeside views never fail to attract buyers.
The largest lake has the same name as the city and, with an area of 436.8 acres, accounts for almost half of Maitland’s water acreage. A canal links it to the 94.62-acre Lake Minnehaha, which is the city’s second biggest lake.
Maitland doesn’t just abound in lakes, it has a profusion of parks and open spaces, too, a lot of which are adjacent to these bodies of water. Near the banks of the very small Lake Lily (5.38 acres), for example, you’ll find lovely Lake Lily Park. You’ll often see folks relaxing here on a lazy Sunday afternoon, enjoying a picnic in one of the many cool, tree-shaded picnic areas or playing ball in the open field. The park also comes with jogging trails, winding brick walkways and the Historic Waterhouse Residence Museum, a restored late Victorian that will transport you back to the refined times of the 19th century.
Maitland has a total of 18 parks all in all, offering a wide range of amenities from playgrounds and hopscotch courts to soccer fields, tennis courts and fishing piers.
